Sangguniang Pambansa ng Mga Simbahan sa Pilipinas

Background

The Executive Committee of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) created an ad hoc committee in its Executive Committee meeting in April 2007 that would identify the number of member-churches’ representation in the General Convention.  This mandate then, entails a census of individuals belonging to NCCP member churches.

Objective

To have an empirical basis of determining the number of delegates per member church in the 2011 General Convention

Definitions

Member-churches refer to those denominations that constitute the NCCP.  They are:

ACC                          Apostolic Catholic Church

CPBC                       Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches

ECP                          Episcopal Church of the Philippines

IEMELIF                   Iglesia Evangelica Metodista En Las Islas Filipina

IUE                            Iglesia Unida Ekyumenikal

IFI                              Iglesia Filipina Independiente

LCP                           Lutheran Church in the Philippines

TSA                           The Salvation Army

UCCP                       United Church of Christ in the Philippines

UMC                         The United Methodist Church

Local Church/Parish/Congregation/Local Corps refers to a group of individuals who come together to a specific place to worship.  The term is hereafter referred to as Local Congregation.  The least number of people that compose a local congregation is 25 persons from 12 years old and above.

Level 2 refers to the next higher structural body after the Local Congregation in the member-church hierarchy.  For example, in CPBC, Level 2 means the Kasapulanan.

Level 3 refers to next higher structural body after Level 2.  The UCCP’s and the UMC’s Level 3 are Jurisdictions and Annual Conferences, respectively.

Full Member refers to an individual who belongs to any of the above denominations.  NCCP will respect the definition of each of the member churches’ definition of “full

member”.

Census Forms

The attached forms shall be accomplished by each of the member churches.  Forms may be reproduced by member churches or may be downloaded from www.nccphilippines.org for the electronic format.  While it is appreciated that member churches submit the forms in hardcopy via fax or mail, the Committee requests that data be sent in electronic format whenever possible.

The Census Form lists the name of the Local Congregation within a single Level 2 structure, the number of full members in the congregation, its address, contact number(s) and the pastor, priest or corps commander assigned to serve the Local Congregation in the year the census was completed.  Churches are requested to separate lists for each Level 2 structure.

The census date is on the Executive Committee Meeting in April 2009.  Member churches are expected to turn in their census data at this date.  It is preferred that Churches submit data in electronic format.  Member-churches are not precluded to submit their forms ahead of time.  Should churches opt to submit ahead of time, forms may be e-mailed to:  library@nccphilippines.org, or faxed to (02) 926-7076 or sent to:
